Grande Stevens Law Firm, which bears the name of its founder, Franzo Grande Stevens, has provided legal assistance, both transactional and in litigation proceedings, in the areas of civil, commercial and corporate law for over fifty years. The lawyers of the Firm operate on the basis of the principles set out in the Firm's Policy with the goal of being considered by the clients as trusted counsel.
The origins of Grande Stevens Law Firm can be traced back to that of Manlio Brosio, who gave up law after Liberation in 1945 and embarked on a political and diplomatic career (Deputy Prime Minister, Ambassador in Moscow, Paris, London and Washington, then Secretary-General of Nato and Senator of the Republic of Italy).
The Firm passed into the hands of his greatest pupil, Dante Livio Bianco, a pre-eminent scholar in civil procedure. It was then temporarily directed by Prof. Paolo Greco, a leading scholar in commercial law, and Carlo Galante Garrone (who gave up his career as a magistrate to this purpose and then embarked on a political career by being elected to the Senate of the Republic of Italy in several terms of office), and regularly cooperated with Piero Calamandrei.
Franzo Grande Stevens was a young pupil when he entered the Studio in 1953. He has since enriched it with colleagues and collaborators, organized it and devoted himself to the practice of commercial law, both in litigation and out-of-court work. He has published many articles on this subject and lectured on "Corporate Accounting" at the University of Turin. Avvocato Grande Stevens has also devoted his work to the legal profession (the "Avvocatura"), having been a member of the Turin Bar Council, President of the Attorneys' Pension Fund Board and President of the National Bar Council. He can be held as the founder of the Studio.
Following the tradition begun by its founder, the Firm has evolved by gathering professionals with diverse experiences, including international experience. The organization of the Firm, in the continuing effort to provide its clients with the highest quality of professional service, has established prestigious offices in Milan and Rome, equipped with the most modern computer technology, where professionals are able to meet the demands of domestic and international clients. All the partners and associates share the philosophy that has made "Grande Stevens" a renowned guarantee of professional quality in Italy and abroad.
It is the Firm's goal and the objective of its attorneys to offer highly specialized and technical assistance and individualized answers and solutions to clients' needs in accordance with the principles set out in the Firm's Policy, which is to furnish high quality services.
Upon the instruction of the Firm on new matters, it is common practice to build concentrated teams of selected lawyers, taking into account the specific necessary competences, so as to provide the required legal assistance with promptness and effectiveness.
The partners nurture the matters undertaken directly and personally with the support of the other lawyers and collaborators of the Firm, who are in number typically proportional to the partners.
The attorneys may count on a broad library which is continuously enriched with the most recent publications both Italian and international and whose collection is composed of over 12,000 books, over 100 periodicals, Italian and international (some of which have been collected since 1903) and over 1,300 treatises and loose-leafs.
The Firm provides legal assistance, both transactional and in litigation proceedings, in the areas of civil, commercial, corporate and tax law, domestically and internationally. The following list enumerates the most relevant areas of law and activities that compose the know how of the Firm, passed on and consolidated through the years. With respect to such activities, the Firm has accrued extensive capabilities and experiences in Mergers and Acquisitions transactions including tax structuring and international taxation, financial law and capital markets and litigation, both in court and in arbitration proceedings.
The law graduates spend six-month periods of practical training in the Firm under the guidance and supervision of one or more partners, also being available to all lawyers of the Firm so as to offer them the opportunity to operate in different areas of law and exposing them to a wide range of approaches and methods. During the course of their traineeship, the "trainees", which are typically small in number and far fewer than the attorneys, engage in the activities of the Firm, both in court and in transactional matters, with the goal of guaranteeing them well-rounded and broad training in multiple areas of law. It is the Firm's belief that the development of the future attorneys is one of the most important duties of the partners and that the training of the attorneys contemporaneously in advisory matters and in cases before the courts represents one of the most fundamental requisites of the future lawyers of the Firm. At the end of each six-month period, the "trainees" are subject to evaluation in order to agree upon the renewal of their practice at the Firm, until the end of the two-year period of the mandatory legal training.
The attorneys collaborating with the Firm who are not members of the professional association (typically, already "trainees" and in some cases starting to collaborate with the Firm after their admission to the bar) lasts for a maximum of three years, only renewable once for a period of the same length. Our associates work under the direct supervision of one or more partners. At the end of the period or periods the associates may be invited to join, or be offered alternative permanent positions within the Firm.
